WHAT TO EXPECT: CONSULTATION

The consultation will consist of a conversation which may address why you are seeking treatment, your relevant medical history, diagnostic results, what services you are looking for and so on. The consultation can take place by phone or video chat or in person at your home, office or another location and lasts up to 30 minutes. I will have questions for you and invite you to ask anything that comes to mind. At the end of our conversation I will do my best to outline a plan for you to move forward whether it be to book an appointment with me, seek treatment elsewhere, return to your family doctor or begin a self-management plan. Please note that this is not a physical assessment, therefore recommendations will only be made on topics discussed. A consultation is not mandatory if you already know you would like to move forward with an appointment. The consultation fee is $40 and payment can be made by cash, e-transfer or credit card. Payment may be requested at the beginning of the consultation. A detailed receipt will be provided and it is your responsibility to seek reimbursement if you have a third party insurance plan. Back to top.

WHAT TO EXPECT: INITIAL PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT

The initial assessment can take place wherever is most comfortable to you (ie. by phone, video chat, home (yours or mine), office etc.). If I come to you, I will bring all of the necessary equipment and when I arrive we can discuss what type of space we may need. Some assessments can be performed sitting at a dining table while others may take place on a sofa or a bed. It is important that the area we are working in be safe and tidy (ie. no tripping hazards, no pets etc.). To use our time efficiently it is ideal that you have your intake paperwork completed prior to my arrival (click here to view and download). You should be dressed comfortably and ensure that relevant areas be accessible for examination. For example, if your knee or hip is being assessed it would be best to wear loose fitting shorts, shoulders may require tank tops and so on. The assessment will begin with a discussion so you can tell me exactly what is going on in your own words. We will go over your completed paperwork and you can provide me with any other documentation at this time. We will move on to a physical assessment where I will feel and move the affected tissues and joints, test strength and sensation and so on. We will discuss my findings and I will propose a treatment plan. If deemed appropriate and time allows, we may try some treatment methods at the end of the assessment. See Treatment Descriptions for examples of techniques that may be recommended or performed. At the end of this visit there should be a clear plan for follow up and if we plan a follow up treatment session, we will discuss if there is anything you need to do in preparation. The initial assessment typically 90 minutes in duration at a cost of $150, payable by cash, e-transfer or credit card. A detailed receipt will be provided and it is your responsibility to seek reimbursement if you have a third party insurance plan. Back to top.

* Special note that for adult pelvic health appointments we will discuss external and internal physical assessments that will take place and the most appropriate settings for such.

* Children’s pelvic health appointments (pain, bedwetting etc.) will only ever involve a physical assessment of private areas after a relationship of trust has been established and only if it is deemed necessary.

* If we are evaluating breast health a physical breast exam will be necessary and if you are breastfeeding, your infant will be an important part of the appointment. If you use a breast pump please also have it available.

WHAT TO EXPECT: PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT

As with the initial assessment I will come to your location with all of the equipment necessary for your treatment. I ask that you make the treatment space as safe as possible and dress appropriately. Choice of treatment depends largely on your body’s response to interventions so we will always discuss how you are feeling prior to beginning. I encourage you to ask questions and fully participate in your care. The treatment session is typically 60 minutes in duration at a cost of $100 payable by cash, e-transter or credit card. A detailed receipt will be provided and it is your responsibility to seek reimbursement if you have a third party insurance plan. For more information on treatment techniques that may be recommended, see Treatment DescriptionsBack to top.
