About Me
My sister and I were raised in Caledonia, Ontario by our amazing parents Dave "Ira" and Judy Martin. They say you can’t pick your family but I truly feel like I won the lottery. I am proud to answer “yes” when people inevitably ask if I am Ira or Judy’s daughter or Jenn’s sister. This town and the people in it are a huge part of who I am. Griffin and I are happy to call it home and are enjoying raising our growing family here. Back to top.
Education
I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences, Specializing in Health Promotion with a Minor in the Sociology of Health and Aging at the University of Western Ontario. I then attended McMaster University graduating with a Master of Science Degree in Physiotherapy. Soon after graduating I completed additional training in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture through McMaster and a Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training Program through Body Therapies Yoga, both of which had a significant impact on my treatment style. More recently I have expanded my education and practice to include pelvic and breast health physiotherapy. Back to top.
Treatment Approach
After graduating I registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and began working in a private clinic environment. This experience was invaluable as I had exposure to clients of all ages with a variety of conditions. I was introduced to an array of treatment modalities and approaches and over the years was able to hone in on my interests and skills. I have a special interest in natural approaches that take advantage of the body’s amazing ability to heal itself and I think it is important to treat more than just symptoms, addressing all affected tissues. I am passionate about helping people to take control of their own health through education, a healthy lifestyle and understanding the mind-body connection. I feel it is my role to empower clients and coach them on their own unique healing journeys. I appreciate my strengths as a practitioner and I also recognize when other professionals may be more suitable. I am happy to make recommendations to others in conjunction with treatment and am open to transferring care when appropriate. Overall, I pride myself on listening closely to the needs of my clients and developing individualized plans to support them reach their goals as efficiently as possible. Back to top.
Why I Started Destination Wellness
My 2015 maternity leave provided a natural transition out of the busy clinic environment and allowed me time to consider both my personal and professional goals. I decided that in order to achieve the work-life balance I desired, it was more appropriate to start my own business. Going to client’s homes and providing one-on-one care affords me freedom in my treatment recommendations as well as freedom in my schedule. I can completely focus on my clients during visits and offer service combinations that are not feasible in a clinic environment. I feel this model of care best suits my style of practice and allows me to treat clients as I would want to be treated. I am also enjoying the creative thinking it allows and find myself more excited about outside-the-box strategies and approaches. Back to top.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support. I would never have had the courage to do this without you!
